5-10-We are not as easily fooled as we formerly were. In the eighteenth century, a novelist would conclude their work by giving their readers a succession of five coincidences, the majority of which were wildly improbable. The revelation that the hero's mother was actually a mysterious maid-servant was gratefully accepted by the readers. A long-lost sibling who was thought to be dead was actually still alive and evilly scheming to bring about the hero's demise. so forth. Such simplistic solutio
